CAO Report, November 17, 2009 Date: (Tuesday, November 17, 2009) Village Website
The new Village of Caroline website is up and running at www.caroline.ca. Any local businesses or groups that would like to be linked to from the website can contact village administration at 403-722-3781. The Staff will be continuing to develop the website over the coming months, with notices on up-coming community events, information from past Council meetings and electronic development and business license application forms.
Public Works Position
The Village has been advertising for our vacant public works labourer position for the past few weeks. We have had an excellent response and received several resumes from interested applicants. Staff will be shortlisting the applicants and arranging interviews in the coming weeks.
Development Appeal
We have received a decision notice on the leave to appeal that was before the courts at the beginning of this month. Through the Municipal Planning Commission (MPC), the Village had issued a development permit earlier this year, which was appealed to the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB). The SDAB upheld the permit. The leave to appeal had been filed to appeal the decision of the SDAB through the Alberta Court of Appeal. The leave to appeal was denied on the grounds that the court found no error of law or jurisdiction that warranted an appeal. There are no further mechanisms for appeal with respect to the issuance of this permit.
FCSS Workshop
Clearwater Regional FCSS is presenting a workshop titled “Meetings that Work”. This workshop will teach techniques for agenda preparation, meeting management, flow and control, dealing with disagreements, basic parliamentary procedure and minute taking. FCSS is offering this workshop at no cost to interested participants, and is strongly encouraging non-profit groups to attend. For more information, contact FCSS staff at 403-845-3720.
Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Conference
Village elected officials and administration attended the 2009 Alberta Urban Municipalities Association conference in Calgary from November 3 to 6. Over 1,200 delegates attended from various Alberta municipalities.
Council Meetings
The Village of Caroline Council meetings are held regularly on the first and third Tuesday of each month, at two o’clock in the Village Council chamber. Any interested members of the public are encouraged to attend.
